The story of the Bélinac Silk Factory

Began in Aurec sur Loire back in 1882. Albert Bélinac, its founder, pioneered the use of mechanical spindles specially-developed for the weaving of silk ribbon… In 1906, he ordered the construction of a building in Saint-Etienne, to which the company was then transferred. Designed by the architect F Dodat, the building sits, as luck would have it, between the Condition des Soies (silk conditioning house) and the Place Jacquard.

In the thirties, the son of the founder, Henry Bélinac, introduced new products to the company’s range, including linings and viscose-rayon upholstery fabrics. Henri managed the Bélinac Silk Factory until 1968 before his grandson, Jean Gelas, took the reins and continue adding new products.

A century and two generations of managers later, the family business is transferred to Yann Biville, the current manager, in 2007.

In 2008, Bélinac becomes distributor of the brand Skaï in the French territory. This is how Bélinac enriches its range of upholstery fabrics by proposing original and high-quality faux leathers.

In September 2010, Bélinac takes over the company Jéro and it adds plain effects and mini motif fabrics to its range. This acquisition opened the way to become French distributor of the English brand Blendworth.

Ever since, Bélinac and its style team create and develop incessantly new jacquard and timeless collections. They get inspiration from the motifs found in the company’s old archives that have shown success in the past, they reinterpret them and come up with new and original fabrics.

A Rare and Precious Know-How!

Since 1882, Bélinac works with lovers of beautiful fabrics… From designers to the Haute Couture, we can also count with interior architects, upholsters and decorators in our client’s portfolio to whom we support and encourage in the preservation of their know-how and creativity.

Bélinac is still willing today to offer to its customers -small and big ones- a rare choice of fabrics and shades full in quality.  Our many colour ranges may contain up to 126 shades for the widest, thus inviting to creativity.

Even though Bélinac is well known for its silk offer, the company has known to adapt itself and to open up to new fabric components such as polyester, spandex, acrylic, acetate, among others. Such fibre diversity enables Bélinac to respond to all its customers’ requests. Women dress up in comfortable easy-to-clean fabrics while in decoration, our fabrics respond positively to cleaning and resistance requirements that are essential to our comfort.

This control over the fabrics and shades seduces fashion houses as well as designers and upholsters and decorators who ‘dress up’ the indoor furniture (sofa, armchairs, wing chair, poufs…).
